If I’m being completely honest, my math textbooks made really awesome pillows in school. They were so large that they kept my head at the perfect level that my teachers (apparently) didn’t notice that I was actually sleeping in order to avoid facing my shortcomings in their subject.
But where I slept my anxieties away in math, I excelled in reading. It was a social activity for me. I remember having a hard time deciding which literature circle to choose and wondering, could I just join them all?
I voiced my thoughts in those elementary school literature circles without the lingering fear that my answers would be completely wrong.
Some of us just feel more comfortable in front of a book.
There are many benefits to participating in a book club, whether it be a digital book club or a traditional one. Book clubs allow you to delve deeper into the themes of a book and discuss ideas you hadn't thought of.
When you participate in a book club, you're encouraged to read things you may not choose for yourself, which can lead to discovering a new writing style or author you enjoy.
Book clubs are also a great way to connect with others who can provide a perspective completely unique from your own. Reading solo is awesome, but discussing thought-provoking plots, themes, character development, and plot twists with others rounds out the experience of reading.
And since I’m not currently in a book club, I decided to start one.
Fairytale Reads Book Club is our new digital book club that takes place entirely online. We’ll be reading fantasy and science fiction novels as a group and holding discussions where we can dig deep into the magical worlds and characters of fantasy novels.
Fantasy and science fiction have always been my favorite genres and I’ve already created a number of products based on books in them. I know many of you also have a high interest in these genres, which is ultimately why I chose them.
I hope that the book club will be a place where you can not only discuss amazing fantasy books but also connect with other readers and build connections in the book community.
I’ve found the online reading community to be an incredibly supportive and loving place full of enthusiastic people willing to share and engage authentically with others and I hope to build another part of it
We’ll be reading a new book each month (or so). Digital book club discussion sessions will be held in the group on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. CST. Our first book is classic fantasy novel and great for readers young and old: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
The reading schedule is as follows:
Sept. 10: Chapters 1-6
Sept. 17: Chapters 6-10
Sept. 24: Chapters 11-14
Oct 1: Chapters 15-17
On our Instagram, we will be holding monthly photo challenges to accompany the digital book club monthly book pick. This month’s prompts are inspired all by the novel and magical characters and themes.
I hope you’ll join our digital book club and read along with us.
Until next time,
